Mandate

We believe that people who have been victimized deserve an immediate response that is caring, skilled and effective. Our response to violence, crimes and tragedies is a continuum of services aimed at meeting the needs of an extremely diverse community.

 

Services

Around-the-Clock Crisis Intervention

Individuals, families, businesses and organizations receive critical care services that facilitate a restoration of safety, prevention of re-victimization and the development of personal paths to recovery.

 

Short-Term Counselling

Counselling through home, workplace and our offices; information about community services; resources and referrals that empower people to make informed choices. Scene attendance and individual, family and group services offered.

 

Supportline/Domestic Violence Emergency Response System (DVERS)

Enhanced protection, intensive safety planning and on-going counselling for people deemed at high risk of violence, often by an estranged partner.

 

Witness Assistance:  Court accompaniment and transmission of court results to victims of crime; relaying of information from victims to the Office of the Crown Attorney; monitoring of all bail hearings and other early court appearances.

 

Transitional Support

Development of structured plans for women who have been victimized by violence and choose to leave their assailant to establish violence-free lives.

 

Resources, Education, Advocacy and Community Help (REACH)

An information clearinghouse designed to provide individuals, groups and organizations with resources that educate them about community services and personal experiences following victimization.

 

Mentoring for Change

Community capacity building through the development of collaborations with individuals, cultural centres, businesses and other groups and organizations within ethno-specific communities. Provision of culturally-appropriate services through partnerships between counsellors and mentors who assist women, men and children eliminate the violence within their families and restore safety to all individuals.
